Q: What is “FryScape: Episode I”?
A: “FryScape: Episode I” is a fan-made point-and-click adventure computer game which takes place in the Futurama universe. It will incorporate a Sierra-style interface and dialog, and will allow players to play as Fry.
This will be, by far, the biggest Futurama fan-made project to date.
Q: Who is behind the project?
A: The people who are behind the project are a group of dedicated fans, who all work together to make this project a reality. To see who is behind the project, just check our development discussion forum.
Q: When will the game be ready?
A: When it’s done. We have no ability to estimate when the project will be finished, since we are not a professional computer game studio, no one is getting paid to do this, therefore people’s private lives come first. Hopefully, with this forum as a shared working place, we'd be able to speed things up.
Q: Isn’t there already a Futurama game? Won’t you be competing against them?
A: There is an official Futurama game, and a good one, which we all suggest you go and buy. The official game is available only on XBOX and PS2 platforms, while the FGP will be available only for the PC. Also, we’d make sure that the two games can not be mistaken to one another. So basically it’s the contrary which is true – we hope that after computer gamers will finish this free fan-made game they’ll have a taste for more, and go and buy the official game, made by professionals, for their console.
Q: Is the game going to be free?
A: Absolutly yes. We do not seek any financial benefits from this project (that would be wrong, and quite illegal). This game is no different from the many fan-arts and fan-scripts that are found through the various websites on the net.
Q: Aren’t you going against FOX by doing this?
A: Quite the contrary. When it comes to copyright issues, none of the graphics, sounds, music, script or anything on the game was ripped directly from the show (although most things are obviously based on it).
The game will contain a message encouraging people to buy the official DVDs, hoping to reach computer gamers who’ve never seen the show, and get them interested.
Q: What tools/programming language are you using to create this game?
A: We are using Adventure Game Studio design tool in order to create the game, including C language scripts that us AGS’s APIs.
Q: Will the source be available for download?
A: It is too early to tell, and it has to be agreeable by all the people who were involved in the creation of the game.
Q: How can I assist?
A: Please check the I want to help! thread on the General Discussion forum for information.
