Futurama

Dear Fry, part 1

[This is inspired on different books by Nicholas Sparks and different movies based on his books. Note: I don’t own the right to Nicholas Sparks’ books or “Futurama” this story is for fun only.]

[This takes place a few months after the last episode and has nothing to do with “Benders Big Score”. Fry and Leela are now dating and very happy together. Leela is still getting used to the idea, and they have held off on saying “I love you” and “proving their love for each other” so to speak. Fry, surprisingly to his co-workers, is fine with it. He agrees that they shouldn’t rush into things. But is waiting for the day when Leela says those three words.]

[PE building: Fry and Leela are sitting on the couch watching TV. Fry has his one arm around Leela and holding her hand with the other.]

Fry: You know, XMAS is coming up.

Leela: Unfortunately.

Fry: Well, I had an idea of what we could do this year.

Leela: What ?

Fry: Why wait for our deaths up here, when we could be safe underground?

Leela: What are you getting at?

Fry: I was just thinking, we know some people who live underground, and I’m sure they would be happy to let us stay there on XMAS eve.

Leela: You want to spend XMAS at my parents?

Fry: (joking) Oh, I forgot your parents live underground too! I guess we could stay there

[She smiled and laughed]

Fry: So, what do you say?

Leela: I say it’s a great idea!

[She kissed his cheek and rested her head on his shoulder]

Leela: I’m actually looking forward to XMAS this year now.

Fry: Do I come up with great ideas, or what?

Leela: (laughs) You sure do.

[They continued sitting there until Hermes came out of his office]

Hermes: What are you two still doing here?

Fry: Relax Hermes, we’re just hanging out.

Hermes: Well why can't you do it someplace else?

Leela: Well, my place is too small,

Fry: And Bender’s always annoying us at my place.

Hermes: Alright fine, you can stay, but you’ve got to be out by 6:00.

[Then the clock struck 6:00]

Hermes: Out you go.

[The two got up, got their belonging out of their lockers, and made their way outside into the late November air hand in hand]

Leela: I’ve always loved fall, the air, the colors, everything.

Fry: Me too, well, fall and spring. I mean, after a long hot summer, you’re ready for some cool weather.

Leela: And after a long freezing winter, you’re ready for some warm weather, right?

Fry: Right.

[They kept walking and lazily made their way to Leela’s. But first they stopped at the park and sat on the bench to kill time. Neither of them were in any hurry to get home.]

Fry: You know, I wish we could sit here with you for ever.

Leela: So do I.

[Just then a leaf fell on Fry’s head. He took it off and stared at it]

Fry: Wow, look at this.

[The leaf had traces of green, orange, red, and yellow. The corners were green, while the other colors made a heart shaped figure in the center]

Leela: It’s beautiful.

Fry: Yeah, its just like you.

[She smiled, and held his hand]

Fry: I’ve got an idea,

[He carefully put the leaf in his jacket pocket and reached into Leela’s purse pulling out a small digital camera]

Leela: What are you doing?

Fry: I want to take a picture with you.

[He held the camera out in front of them and kissed her cheek while looking at the camera. It flashed and they looked at the picture.]

Leela: Aw, that’s cute!

Fry: And I know what I’m doing with this one.

Leela: What?

Fry: I cant tell you, but you’ll love it. Trust me.

[She smiled]

Leela: Fry, I know I’ve been holding off on saying this, but…I love you.

[He stared at her, but smiled]

Fry: You- you do?

Leela: Yeah,

Fry: Oh Leela, I love you too.

[He kissed her on the lips and she returned it.]

Leela: I feel so much better now. I’ve been wanting to tell you this for a long time, I just never could find the right moment.

Fry: Well, now you can say it to me anytime. And can I say it to you any time I want?

Leela: Only if you mean it.

Fry: Of course I mean it!

Leela: (laughs) Then its fine with me.

[The wind picked up and it started getting colder.]

Fry: We should get going.

Leela: Yeah,

[Fry put his arm around Leela to keep her warm as they walked back to her apartment.]

[Apartment 1I: Fry and Leela are standing outside holding hands]

Fry: Well, I guess I’ll see you tomorrow.

Leela: Yep, you’ll come and get me so we can walk together?

Fry: Don’t I every morning?

Leela: Yeah, (pause) I love you.

Fry: I love you too.

[They kissed again and Fry rested his forehead against hers]

Fry: Bye

Leela: Bye

[He started walking down the hall to the stairs when Leela called to him]

Leela: You do know that I’m gonna call you before I go to bed right?

Fry: (laughs) I had a feeling you would. Seeing as you do that every night.

[They both laughed]

Fry: Bye babe.

[He walked down stairs with a smile on his face]

[Robot Arms Apartments: Bender is sitting on the couch watching TV. Fry walks in and hangs up his coat]

Fry: Hey Bender.

Bender: Hey meat bag, where’ve you’ve been?

Fry: Leela and I took a walk in the park.

Bender: You upset that she’s holding out on you?

Fry: No! of course not!

Bender: Yeah, right.

Fry: Bender, I’m not. But, she did just tell me that she loves me.

Bender: Really?

Fry: Yeah, it was perfect. We were sitting on a bench in the park, and she told me that she loves me. I was so happy.

Bender: You didn’t blow it and say something stupid, did you?

Fry: No! I told her that I loved her too.

Bender: What made her say it- (gasp) You drugged her didn’t you?!

Fry: (angry) Why the hell would I do that?! I love her and she loves me, cant you understand that?!

[Bender’s eyes grew wide and Fry took a deep breath]

Fry: Sorry Bender, I didn’t mean to blow up like that at you.

Bender: No, its okay. I shouldn’t of said that. (pause) So she loves you?

Fry: Yeah, and I’m gonna ask her to marry me someday, and I know she’ll say “yes”.

Bender: Well, congrats buddy.

Fry: Thanks. I’m gonna go work on Leela’s XMAS present.

Bender: What are you giving her?

Fry: I decided to make her a photo album that she can add to. Like with pictures of our wedding.

[They both laughed]

Bender: She’ll love it.

Fry: Plus I took a picture of us at the park, and check this out.

[He took the leaf out of his pocket and held it up]

Fry: I’m gonna put this in with the picture. Cause after we found this, she told me she loved me.

Bender: You have some great ideas. Why don’t you bring it out here and I’ll help you?

Fry: Alright.

[He brought out a dark purple photo album and some pictures of him and Leela, some of her parents, some of her and her parents]

Bender: You’re really going all out aren’t you?

Fry: Yeah, but she deserves it.

[They started working, and organized the pictures into the book. They worked until Leela called around 9:30]

Fry: Hey.

Leela: (on phone) Hey, what have you’ve been doing?

Fry: Oh, nothing, just thinking about you.

Leela: Aw, that’s sweet.

Fry: What about you?

Leela: The same. I just called to say goodnight.

Fry: Well, you just did, any thing else?

Leela: (laughs) I also wanted to say I love you Fry.

Fry: I love you too Leela. I’ll see you in the morning.

Leela: Alright, good night.

Fry: Good night.

[They hung up and Fry laid down on his bed, closed his eyes and went to sleep]

[The days turned to weeks at PE and soon it was XMAS. Leela planned for the two of them to stay down there]

[Apartment 1I: XMAS eve: Fry is standing outside with three gift bags and his clothes, waiting for Leela so they can go to her parents. He has on a white collard shirt and kakis on with a blazer]

Leela: (OS) Come on in, I’ll just be a minute.

[He walked in and sat down in the chair]

Fry: (thinking) I sure hope she likes her gifts.

Leela: Hey

Fry: Hi,

[Leela had on a red sweater with a black skirt on. Fry got up and kissed her]

Fry: You look great.

Leela: Thank you, so do you.

Fry: Thank you. So you ready?

Leela: Of course. Can you help me get Nibbler?

Fry: Yeah,

[After a “slight” struggle, Fry finally got Nibbler in his crate. And the two made their way to Munda and Morris’s]

[Underground: Munda and Morris’s house: Fry and Leela are standing outside and she knocks. Munda answers the door]

Munda: Hi sweetie,

Leela: Hi mom.

[The two hugged and Munda smiled at Fry]

Munda: Phillip, how are you?

Fry: Good, and you?

Munda: I’m fine thanks, come in, come in. Morris, they’re here!

[they sat down their bags and Morris came out]

Morris: Hey kids!

[he gave Leela a hug and shook Fry’s hand]

Munda: We’re so glad that you two decided to spend XMAS with us. Why don’t you put you gifts under the tree?

[There was a dying palm tree in the corner and Fry put the three gift bags under it]

Leela: So is dinner ready yet?

Munda: Almost, I was just about to go check on it.

Leela: But before we eat, I want to give Fry his one gift.

Munda: Alright, I’ll be right back.

[She went into the kitchen]

Fry: Leela, you don’t have to do that, I can wait until tomorrow.

Leela: I have to give it to you. I’ll be back.

[She went into her room and Fry sat down with Morris]

Fry: Why does she have to give it to me now?

Morris: You’ll see.

[Leela came out with her hands behind her back.]

Leela: Merry XAMS Fry.

[She revealed a pet crate and Fry stared. She opened it and looked inside]

Leela: Come on out little guy, its okay.

[A little shaggy dog came out and Fry got down on the floor]

Fry: Seymour?

Leela: I thought you would love to have him back.

[Seymour was cuddling up to Fry and he was laughing]

Fry: Oh my God, thank you Leela!

[He got up and gave Leela a kiss on the cheek.]

Fry: I cant believe this!

[Seymour’s tail starting wagging happily and Fry picked him up.]

Fry: He’s so cute.

Leela: Yeah,

Fry: So, does he get along with Nibbler?

Leela: Yeah, here.

[She let Nibbler out of his crate and Fry set Seymour on the floor and they instantly started messing around. They all started laughing]

Leela: I told you.

[Munda came out of the kitchen]

Munda: Looks like he likes his gift.

Fry: (chuckles) Yeah, I never thought I would see him again.

Munda: Well, diner’s ready. Shall we?

[They all made their way to the dining room and took a seat.]

Fry: Looks delicious.

[Time lapse: The four of them are sitting in the living room. Fry has Seymour on his lap and is stroking his back. Leela is sitting next to him scratching Nibbler’s belly. Munda is sitting next to Leela and Morris is in the chair]

Munda: So did you enjoy your dinner?

Fry: It was wonderful.

Munda: Thank you Phil.

Fry: Please, call me Fry. Everyone does.

Munda: Thank you Fry.

[They all continued sitting and talking for awhile and they all started getting tired, Leela made her way to her room and Munda and Morris were going to their room]

Munda: Well, its getting late, Morris, show Fry the guest room.

[He led Fry down the hall to the room across from Leela’s]

Morris: Here you go,

Fry: Thank you, I’ll see you in the morning.

[Morris left and Fry set Seymour on the bed as he changed into his pajamas. He laid down on the bed and Seymour climbed on his chest and settled on him. Fry laughed and closed his eyes. About half and hour later, he heard the door open slightly and saw Leela standing in the doorway. She put her finger up to her lips telling him to be quiet. She walked in and laid down next to him]

Leela: (whisper) My parents would kill me if they found out I was doing this.

Fry: (whisper) Really? Well if they kill you, they’ll have to kill me too.

[She laughed quietly and kissed him]

Leela: (whisper) I love you.

Fry: (whisper) I love you too. And thank you for my gift.

Leela: (whisper) You’re welcome.

Fry: (whisper) You know, I could get use to this.

[They laid there most of the night holding each other and kissing. Around 3:00, Leela made her way back to her room.]

[XMAS morning: Fry wakes up when he felt somebody stroking his hair. He looked up and saw Leela in her robe smiling down at him]

Leela: Merry Xmas Fry.

Fry: Merry Xmas Leela.

[He sat up and rubbed his eyes. Leela sat down and kissed him.]

Leela: Lets go, my parents are waiting.

Fry: How long have you’ve been up?

Leela: About an hour. We decided to let you sleep.

Fry: You didn’t have to do that, you could of woke me up.

Leela: They said it was part of their Xmas gift to you.

[He laughed and picked Seymour up and they made their way to the living room]

Morris: Hey there he is. We’ve been waiting for you.

[The two of them sat on the floor and Fry let Seymour roam around]

Munda: Okay, whose gonna give out their gifts first?

[Fry raised his hand and they all laughed]

Fry: I’ll go.

[He reached over and got the 3 bags. First he gave Morris his, then Munda, and then Leela. Morris got a new wallet and a watch, Munda got a bracelet and a framed picture of her with Leela and Morris. And Leela first opened a diamond necklace.]

Leela: Oh, Fry, its beautiful. Thank you.

Fry: Wait there’s one more thing.

[He took out the photo album and handed it to her. She smiled as she opened it]

Leela: Wow, you did this?

Fry: Yep, here look at this,

[He flipped the pages and pointed and Leela gasped]

Fry: Do you remember that day?

Leela: Of course I do.

[She showed the page to her parents revealing the leaf that fell on Fry’s head and the picture he took of the two of them]

Munda: Oh, that’s sweet, where did you find that leaf?

Fry: It just fell on my head one day.

Leela: And that was the day I told Fry that I loved him.

[He took her hand and smiled]

Munda: Leela, I think you should go next.

[She reached under the tree and pulled out three boxes. She told Fry to open his first. He did and the first thing in the box was a dog tag necklace that had the letters “TL &PF” carved on it. The second was a small framed picture of Fry holding Leela on his back.]

Fry: Thank you, this is awesome.

[he kissed her cheek. And Munda and Morris opened their’s. Leela got them each a set of robes with matching slippers. Then Munda and Morris gave Fry and Leela their gifts. Leela got a locket that had her name carved on the outside, with a picture of her and her parents inside. Fry got a t-shirt that said “Leela’s man” and a new coffee mug that said “Universe’s #1 delivery”.]

Fry: (laughs) I love the shirt.

[Leela took a look at it and laughed]

Leela: That’s great.

Morris: Well, I’m gonna go pour us all some coffee.

Fry: Here I’ll help.

[They got up and went into the kitchen]

Fry: (soft) Morris,

Morris: (soft) What?

Fry: (soft) Can I ask you something?

Morris: (soft) Sure, but why are we whispering?

Fry: (soft) Because I don’t want Leela to hear us.

Morris: (soft) Why?

Fry: (soft) I wanted to ask you, if I could have your blessing to ask your daughter to marry me.

Morris: (soft) Really? You want to marry her?

Fry: (soft) Yes, I could see my self spending the rest of my life with her. I don’t know when I’ll ask her, but I want to know that you’re okay with it.

Morris: (soft) Of course I’m okay with it. You have my blessing.

Fry: (soft) Oh, thank you, thank you so much.

[Fry held out his hand, but Morris gave him a hug instead]

Morris: Lets go, Munda can get a little crazy if she doesn’t get her coffee.

Fry: (laughing) I guess that’s where Leela gets it from.

[They both laughed and each brought out two mugs of hot coffee]

Fry: Here sweetie,

Leela: Thank you.

[they spent the remainder of the day at Leela’s parents, and finally started making their way home around 8:30 after having Xmas dinner.]

[Leela’s apartment: Fry and Leela are standing outside. Fry has his bags and Seymour’s crate]

Leela: So, do you want to come in?

Fry: (smiling) Sure.

[She opened the door and Fry put his stuff in the corner. He had the dog tag that Leela got him on. After letting Seymour and Nibbler out of their crates, Leela got a blanket and laid it down on the floor. Fry sat down and Leela sat in front of him, leaning into him. Fry put his arms around her waist and Leela put her hands on top of his.]

Fry: So, did you have a nice Xmas?

Leela: I had a great Xmas. Thank you Fry.

Fry: No problem.

Leela: I love you,

Fry: I love you too.

[he kissed the top of her head and she smiled. Nibbler and Seymour came up and laid next to them.]

Leela: You know, I have one more present for you.

Fry: Really? Aw, you didn’t have to do that.

Leela: I’ll be back.

[she got up and went into the bedroom leaving Fry alone. He went in his bag and pulled out the picture she’d gave him and smiled. Knowing that he was gonna spend the rest of his life with her someday. He was so busy looking at the picture, he didn’t hear Leela come out]

Leela: I need you to come in here.

Fry: Okay,

Leela: But you have to close your eyes.

[He got up and closed his eyes and she led her into the bed room]

Leela: (OS) Okay open them.

[He did, and smiled]

Fry: Wow! A telescope?

Leela: I know how much you love looking at the stars, so I got you this.

[he walked up to it and ran his hand over it.]

Fry: Thank you, this is great!

[He picked her up and swung her around and then kissed her]

Fry: Why don’t we test this out tomorrow?

Leela: Alright, when you come to pick me up, we’ll take it to work.

Fry: Cool, (looks at watch) Well, its getting late, I should probably get going, otherwise Bender will start assuming things.

Leela: Okay, I wish you could stay longer.

Fry: So do I.

[He put his arms around her]

Fry: (whisper) I love you.

Leela: (whisper) I love you too.

Fry: You know, ever since you’ve told me that, I’ve haven’t been able to stop saying it.

Leela: Neither have I.

[They both smiled]

Leela: Here, let me get you some food for Seymour before you go.

[She pulled out a bag of kibbles and snouts, and handed it to Fry. They said their good byes and Fry picked up his stuff, and made his way home]

[Robot Arms Apartment: Bender is sitting on the couch waiting for Fry. He walks in and puts down the crate and looks up at Bender]

Fry: Hey, Merry Xmas Bender.

Bender: Merry Xmas Fry. How was it at Leela’s parents?

Fry: Oh, it was great. Last night, she actually snuck into my room. I felt like we were two teenagers sneaking out late. And check out my gift.

[He opened the crate and Seymour came out]

Bender: No way! She cloned Seymour for you?

Fry: Yeah, she knew I would love to have him back.

Bender: How did she like hers?

Fry: Oh my God, she loved it. And she loved the necklace I got her too.

Bender: Did she get you anything else?

Fry: Yeah, she got me this dog tag necklace, here look at the engraving on it.

[He showed him the “TL&PF’]

Fry: She also got me a picture of the two of us.

[He then took the picture out of his bag and showed Bender]

Bender: Wasn’t that the day after the opera? You two came in and she was on your back, so we took a picture. And did you put that leaf with the picture in the album?

Fry: Of course, and she just couldn’t believe it. And you know what else I did?

Bender: (unsure) Do I want to know what you did?

Fry: (laughs) It’s not that, (pause) I asked Morris for his blessing so I could ask Leela to marry me.

Bender: (skeptical) No you didn’t.

Fry: I did, and he said yes.

Bender: Well, what did she say? Did you ask her?

Fry: No, I’m still thinking about when I’m going to. I think I should do it on Valentines day, you know? That’s in like 2 months.

Bender: I’m sure, no matter how, or when you ask her, she’ll say “Yes”. (pats Fry’s shoulder) And listen, (pause) I don’t want you telling me anything you and Leela end up doing, okay?

Fry: (laughing) Okay. Oh, I almost forgot to give you your gift.

[He picked up a bag that he got on the way home]

Fry: Merry Xmas buddy!

[Bender opened it and inside was a case of Old Fourton and Pat’s blue robot.]

Bender: Thanks buddy! You want one?

Fry: No thanks, I think I’m just gonna go to bed. I’ll see you in the morning.

Bender: Wait, I got you something too.

[He hands Fry a card]

Fry: (reading) Show this card for a free once a month evening with Leela. It includes, the apartment to yourselves. (laughs) Thanks Bender.

[Next day: PE ship: Fry and Leela set up the telescope on the bridge and he’s looking through it while Leela pilots the ship. We see that Fry has a black t-shirt instead of his regular attire]

Leela: So, how do you like your Xmas gift Fry?

Fry: I love it.

[he turns around revealing he has the shirt he got from Leela’s parents. Leela laughed every time she saw it],

Leela: Everyone loved your shirt, huh?

Fry: (laughs) Yeah, and lucky for us, we have a delivery to the Nimbus today.

Leela: Good thing you wore that shirt. I can finally get back at Zapp, after all these years.

Fry: Yeah, (pause) Hey, come up here. Put the ship on auto pilot.

[She did and walked up to him]

Fry: Take a look.

[She looked in the lens]

Leela: (soft) Oh, wow.

[She saw a big purple and orange nebula]

Leela: That’s beautiful. I never noticed how many beautiful things there are in the universe.

Fry: I can see the most beautiful thing in the universe right now.

[She looked up]

Leela: Where?

Fry: Right in front of me.

[She smiled, and put her arms around his neck as he put his arms around her waist]

Leela: Did I ever tell you how much I love you?

Fry: (smiles) You might of.

[They lean in to kiss]

Bender: (OS) Ew! Get a room you two!

[They both turn to see Bender coming up from the cargo bay. Leela smiles at Fry and kisses his nose]

Leela: We’ll pick up where we left off later.

Fry: Alright.

Bender: Hey big boots, we’re nearing the Nimbus.

Leela: Okay, thanks Bender. Fry, go help him load everything on the hover dollies.

[cut to cargo bay: Fry and Bender are loading all the boxes. Bender notices Fry’s shirt]

Bender: Did Leela get you that shirt?

Fry: No, actually, her parents did.

Bender: Did they really?

Fry: Yeah, I thought it was so funny.

Bender: What do you think Zapp’s gonna say?

Fry: I hope he just finally realizes that Leela hates him and will leave her alone.

Bender: (laughs) Oh wait, you were serious, let me laugh even harder. (laughs harder) (pause) Oh your God. You really think that will happen? (Fry nods and Bender stares. Then he laughs hysterically)

Fry: Shut up!

Bender: You don’t think that anything bad will happen?

Fry: No,

Bender: Fry, he’s the general of the DOOP. If he really wanted you and Leela to be apart, you know, he could draft you.

Fry: Oh, come on Bender, do you really think that Zapp will stoop as low as to draft me?

Bender: Who knows. Its Zapp.

[He walks out and Fry looks worried]

Fry: (thinking) Forget what Bender said, Zapp wouldn’t draft me. Would he? No, he’s not smart enough to come up with an idea like that.

[His thoughts are interrupted by Leela walking in]

Leela: Hey there.

Fry: Oh, hi.

Leela: Are you okay?

Fry: Jus thinking.

Leela: About what?

Fry: (lying) You,

Leela: Aw, that’s sweet. (kisses him)

Fry: Well, lets get this over with.

Bender: (OS) That’s what she said! Whoo!

Fry: Shut up Bender!

[Leela lowered the cargo bay and they all saw Zapp and Kif.]

Zapp: Well, well, well. isn’t it the lovely Leela?

Leela: Back off Zapp!

Fry: Yeah! She’s mine, right?

Leela: That’s right.

[Zapp notices Fry’s shirt]

Zapp: Shouldn’t I be wearing that shirt? I mean, it says “Leela’s man”

[Fry goes at him, but Leela holds him back]

Leela; Fry, no! Don’t waste your energy, (sly) You’ll need that for later.

[Fry shoots Zapp a triumph look]

Zapp: Well, you’ll need all the energy you have to satisfy her, (pause) I should know.

[He reaches for Leela, and pulls her close. A look of fear comes over her face as he reaches for his belt, not knowing what he‘s going to do. Fry sees red and punches Zapp in the face and pulls Leela away]

Fry: You stay away from her!

[He put his hands up to Leela’s face and looks at her]

Fry: You okay?

Leela: (shaken) Yeah, I’m fine.

Fry: Why don’t you go back on the ship, I can handle it from here.

Leela: Okay,

[She got back on the ship and Fry looks at Zapp, his lip is bleeding and his eyes are welling up. Fry hands him the clip board]

Fry: Sign here please.

[Back on the ship: Leela is sitting in her seat waiting for Fry. She hears him come in and runs up to him]

Fry: I’m sorry baby, he’s an animal.

Leela: I know, but thank you.

Fry: Oh, your welcome. But listen, he didn’t say that because of you, it was because of me. Alright? (she nods) I don’t want you to blame your self.

[She takes a deep breath, and shakes her head]

Leela: I was so scared. I didn’t know what her was going to do to me, and you. I just couldn’t react.

Fry: Hey, its okay, that’s why you have me here. You know?

[She laughs and hugs him]

Leela: I love you.

Fry: I know, and you know that I love you.

[She breaks the hug, but still holds his hands]

Fry: And listen, I know you just said that thing about me saving my energy so Zapp would leave you alone. And I’m fine with that.

Leela: Really? I thought you would be upset.

Fry: Why would I be upset?

Leela: I don’t know, but thanks for understanding.

Fry: What do you say when we get home, we go back to my place, we’ll have the apartment to ourselves, and we can just sit around and relax.

Leela: How are you gonna get Bender out?

Fry: Well, his gift was that once a month, you and I get the apartment to ourselves for the evening.

Leela: Really? I think that’s the best gift Bender has ever given some one.

Fry: Yeah, so what do you say?

Leela: Do you have to ask?

[Back on the Nimbus: Zapp is sitting in his seat with an ice pack up to his lip. Kif is at his side]
